55 and 30 year old trellised Syrah from the Rende Vineyard, Blewitt Springs. 40% whole bunch. Raised in one and two year old puncheons (thick stave, they add). There’s no V Syrah made in 2024 as the crops were too small, so it’s all here. Blue fruit, some red, spice, black olive, a distinct ferrous character, dried herb and violet perfume. It’s medium-bodied, grilled meat, blue fruit and dried herbs, Syrah by name, Syrah by nature. There’s a cool character here, even though the wine is nicely ripe, a hazelnut feel to tannin, with a nutty and fresh finish of excellent length, closing with some orange peel and juicy acidity.
