The Wine Advocate RP 89 Zinfandel is a variety that Australia does pretty well, despite being a relatively rare cultivar here. While this 2020 Zinfandel is (very) oaky, the fruit has plushness and concentration to match. The oak is a bit of an issue, but I have more of a problem with the alcohol through the finish, which imparts a pruny, warming, overly ripe character to the wine. It is plain to see that the fruit quality is good, just picked a little late and left in oak a bit long.
